Jim Brady Leaves the Booth Brothers

This just in from the Booth Brothers. I’m stunned! In this video announcement, Michael shares that Jim has some new ministry opportunities that will keep him from being able to continue working with the group. Although I presume that he will contribute his writing skills to them along with the other groups who’ve recorded his work, his singing will be sorely missed.

This has really been a year of hard losses for southern gospel music. If you thought it couldn’t get worse than Pat Barker leaving the Mark Trammell Quartet, this is about the only thing that could beat it. I’m excited for Jim and his wife Melissa as they step into God’s will, but man oh man. Pray that Michael and Ronnie will find just the right replacement. Fortunately, he will continue touring with them until the end of the year—long enough for me to catch them all in concert for one last time!

(Added note: I love Michael’s approach in explaining why they did this in video form rather than writing. Because people always wonder whether there’s “something between the lines” in a press release, they chose this way to make it clear that “there is NOTHING between the lines!” Thank you Michael!)

Wow, this makes me so sad. I really did not see this coming. Jim will be hugely missed. His ministry with the BB has been such a blessing to me.

I also am glad that he isn’t leaving immediately. Michael did amend the statement however to say that he was staying at least until the end of the Jubilee tour. Do you have any idea what that means time-wise? I have tickets for a concert in early November and I’m really hoping that he will still be singing at that concert.

On that note, I’m hoping for pictures at that concert. Do you have any tips for getting a picture together with all three of them, since it will be the last chance? They only come out at the end of the concert and they are never together. You seem to be more “in” with groups, do you have any ideas for me?

I’ve been blessed to be able to meet all the guys at a couple of concerts, so this last one will be very bittersweet. This is truly the end of a great era.

    1. Well, I know that Jubilee always tours around Christmas, and Michael also said “the end of the year,” so I assume that this means they’ll still be together in November. I hope so for your sake!

I’m afraid that I’m not “in” enough with groups to control who they choose to send to the product table! But if you peek back into the auditorium, you can sometimes see one of them putting stuff away or just hanging out. I’m sure you could ask any one of the guys whether it would be possible to get them together for a farewell snapshot. That’s what I’m planning to do—sorry to shatter any illusions. 🙂

No, no illusions were shattered. I know you don’t have that kind of pull. 🙂 I just thought you might have a suggestion for how I could get it to work. So yes, I guess I will just ask one of the guys about it. It might mean staying later, but it would be worth it.

I totally agree with your additional note; this was a group farewell very well done. I also think that the gossip surrounding these things is less likely to sprout up when the announcement is made long before the member actually leaves. It also makes the transition easier for us “fans”. Not that I’m bitter about any other particular group losing a member before a concert I had tickets for. *cough, cough* 😉
